Video Editing Practice

Video Editing Practice Blog Reflection

10/29/25

In the last few classes, we have been practicing editing on Adobe Premiere Pro. We started by watching 13 different videos, teaching us a wide variety of things we will need to know. For example, they taught us how to add sound bits, export our final clips, and many more useful tips I used throughout the practice. I spent one class period strictly just watching the videos, and then by the next class, I was able to begin making my media. Since I spent so much time watching the videos, when I was physically doing the editing, it wasn't too tricky, but I definitely had some areas where I struggled.

My experience creating the clips went pretty smoothly. At first, I was kind of struggling because the first clip would not line up with the timeline correctly. Eventually, I figured it out, and the clips were just flowing to me, and then the unthinkable happens..... I went to sit at my computer the next period, ready to finish my clips, and then I found out my video didn't save.... At first, I was super annoyed because I had worked so hard, but I just got right back to work and made a COMPLETELY new video. Honestly, I was way happier with my second attempt, so everything ended up being okay.

To be honest, I didn't have too many struggles, but one that I did come across was that I would add a clip to the end of my sequence, and somehow the same clip would end up at the beginning of it. I was super confused why it was doing this, and still, I have no idea. But thankfully, somehow I fixed it. It was super frustrating, but thankfully it was resolved. I had a couple of successes in the process. One that I had was that I took TV Production in my Sophomore year. I was familiar with the program. So adding the clips to the sequence was simple for me, and also adding text to the different clips, which I was familiar with as well

Through the process of adding clips to the sequence, I learned that you could use the sound from a different clip as a sound bite and layer it over another video, making it into a voiceover. I thought this was super cool, especially because they had a lot of cool ice cream clips, so I was able to incorporate the clips but have a voiceover going on at the same time, making it really engaging to the audience. I specifically used this technique when Zach, the manager, was talking about how the customers' joy brings him satisfaction. I used that sound bite and layered it over a bunch of videos of him interacting with different smiling customers. I was really happy with how it turned out!

Like I said in a previous paragraph, my original sequence did not save. So one important takeaway I learned for this practice is that it ALWAYS HIT THE SAVE BUTTON. I made the silly mistake of not saving the clips to my computer.... this was definitely not my brightest moment, but it's all okay because I learned from it!! So if I decide to do a film opening for my FRQ, then best believe I will be spamming that save button over and over and over and over again. I think that Premiere Pro will help me with my portfolio project because it will help me to successfully create a great film with different techniques and skills. If I decide to do the film, then these videos I watched will be very helpful. I will definitely be rewatching them.

Camera Work Reflection

                       CAMERA WORK REFLECTION

CAMERA MOVEMENTS:

I began the learning process by watching a video on camera movements. It was super helpful, especially because before this class I had limited knowledge about this topic. After I watched the video, I took notes and wrote down the definition of the various movements. For this project, we were assigned to produce a surprise story using different camera movements. Our story was about a group of friends throwing a surprise birthday party for the main girl. We used different camera movements to convey an anxious and 'on the edge' theme to our video.

The experience was definitely interesting... It was honestly super fun, our group worked very well together, and it was super cool to actually use what we learned and use it to create, what I call, a masterpiece. A major success I had during filming the project was the assurance that I correctly identified and portrayed the movements we learned during class. GO ME!

During the completion of this process, I learned how to tell a story through camera movements. I learned that certain movements can convey one feeling towards the audience, while other similar movements can convey a completely different message. Honestly, if I were to do this project again, I would keep everything the same... I felt really confident about this video. I felt our group worked amazingly together, and we did a good job using movements like whip pan and pan in+tilt to create an engaging piece of media!

CAMERA ANGLES/SHOTS:

We began the learning process by dividing into groups of four and dividing into different stations around the room. In each station, we wrote three to four different vocabulary words, and then cut out papers with different movie scenes. We then used our new knowledge of the angles and shots to correctly identify each scene. For this project, we were instructed to create a story of an imitate object only using pictures. My group and I decided to do a day in the life of a backpack. This story follows a backpack throughout her day at school. This project was definitely more challenging than the first project. However, I still had a positive experience

One specific challenge that I had was coming up with the correct angles/shots to convey the message I was trying to tell. I tried to have meaning behind every shot, but in the boring scenes, it was harder to do so. However, I tried my best and I am still proud of my work! Similar to the camera movement project, I learned how to tell a story with a picture. I learned that certain angles can make a character seem vulnerable, but a slight camera adjustment can make the character seem powerful and important.

Mrs Acosta gave us some good feedback for our POV scene. She said that POV shots are typically used right after a shot that's already in the scene, so if I were to redo this project, I would make sure to establish the scene and then do the character's POV shot.

Introduction Post

Hi, my name is Thea, and I am a senior this year. This is my very first AICE class, and I am super excited to learn all about the world of Media! So far, my experience in Media Studies has been super interesting. I have really enjoyed learning how to use denotation and connotation to analyze scenes from different movies and TV shows. Something I hope to gain from the portfolio process is to have a clear reflection of my work throughout the year, which will help me to look back at all the growth that I have achieved over the upcoming year. I am considering doing a magazine this year for my product because of the creative freedom it allows; you can really change and customize it to however you would like.
