Camera Work Reflection

                       CAMERA WORK REFLECTION

CAMERA MOVEMENTS:

I began the learning process by watching a video on camera movements. It was super helpful, especially because before this class I had limited knowledge about this topic. After I watched the video, I took notes and wrote down the definition of the various movements. For this project, we were assigned to produce a surprise story using different camera movements. Our story was about a group of friends throwing a surprise birthday party for the main girl. We used different camera movements to convey an anxious and 'on the edge' theme to our video.

The experience was definitely interesting... It was honestly super fun, our group worked very well together, and it was super cool to actually use what we learned and use it to create, what I call, a masterpiece. A major success I had during filming the project was the assurance that I correctly identified and portrayed the movements we learned during class. GO ME!

During the completion of this process, I learned how to tell a story through camera movements. I learned that certain movements can convey one feeling towards the audience, while other similar movements can convey a completely different message. Honestly, if I were to do this project again, I would keep everything the same... I felt really confident about this video. I felt our group worked amazingly together, and we did a good job using movements like whip pan and pan in+tilt to create an engaging piece of media!

CAMERA ANGLES/SHOTS:

We began the learning process by dividing into groups of four and dividing into different stations around the room. In each station, we wrote three to four different vocabulary words, and then cut out papers with different movie scenes. We then used our new knowledge of the angles and shots to correctly identify each scene. For this project, we were instructed to create a story of an imitate object only using pictures. My group and I decided to do a day in the life of a backpack. This story follows a backpack throughout her day at school. This project was definitely more challenging than the first project. However, I still had a positive experience

One specific challenge that I had was coming up with the correct angles/shots to convey the message I was trying to tell. I tried to have meaning behind every shot, but in the boring scenes, it was harder to do so. However, I tried my best and I am still proud of my work! Similar to the camera movement project, I learned how to tell a story with a picture. I learned that certain angles can make a character seem vulnerable, but a slight camera adjustment can make the character seem powerful and important.

Mrs Acosta gave us some good feedback for our POV scene. She said that POV shots are typically used right after a shot that's already in the scene, so if I were to redo this project, I would make sure to establish the scene and then do the character's POV shot.
